Matt Smith

VP of Operations

"Having spent most of his career delivering projects through progressive delivery methods, Matt Smith is passionate about collaboration and problem solving as a team. The majority of his projects have been design-build (progressive and traditional) at the University of Washington, University of Washington Tacoma, and local technical colleges. When joining GenCap, he took responsibility for the complex Woodinville Civic Campus project ($80m) and leading a team that has satisfied multiple owners with an on-time and under budget product. Matt’s experience with progressive delivery has strengthened his understanding of how a project can be most effectively designed and delivered. As a VP of Construction Operations he takes responsibility for the success of his teams and strives to stay engaged with all facets of the design and construction process.

In his relatively short career, Matt has built data centers, historical renovations, a utility plant, numerous academic buildings and even a seawall. Always drawing from this wide variety of experiences and projects, he is people and process focused. He appreciates the variety of teams he has been a part of and likes to draw from those experiences to make each project greater than the last.

Matt holds degrees in both Architecture and Construction Management from Washington State University and is a certified DBIA professional. "
